Our story
We are a small flock at Faye Meadows Farm, consisting of us, Molly and Michael, along with our Icelandic sheep, alpacas, fainting goats, and horses. After leaving Chicago and spending some time in the suburbs, we sought a simpler way of life and found it on our farm near Norway, IL. Our attraction to Icelandic sheep stems from their versatility; they provide wool, milk, and meat for our family, and we appreciate their diverse colors, patterns, and genetics. Given our modest 5-acre property, we maintain a balance by keeping only one ram and six pregnant ewes at a time, ensuring a sustainable and manageable operation.
Our Standards
With keeping a small flock, we prioritize the quality of our breeding stock by selecting only the best individuals each year. Our focus is on sheep that demonstrate high parasite resistance, as we reserve the use of chemical dewormers for emergency situations. Additionally, we seek sheep that are easy to handle; any signs of aggression disqualify them from breeding consideration. We appreciate the versatility of a triple-purpose breed, so every ewe retained for breeding must possess the ability to produce milk, have desirable wool for spinning, and be capable of producing large lambs suitable for processing.
